HOW TO USE
Use only as directed by your prescriber or pharmacist. This product is intended for use as a sterile diluent for suitable injectable medicines, not as a stand-alone treatment.
INGREDIENTS
Preserved Water (Sterile) (Bacteriostatic) with benzyl alcohol 0.9% is sterile water for injection containing a small amount of benzyl alcohol as an antimicrobial preservative. It is used as a diluent to dissolve or dilute compatible injectable medicines so they can be given in the volume prescribed by your healthcare professional. The benzyl alcohol helps limit microbial growth in a multi-dose vial when it is accessed multiple times under appropriate aseptic conditions.
WARNINGS

What Preserved Bacteriostatic Water Is Used For
Preserved Sterile Water is not a medicine on its own. It is a sterile vehicle used to reconstitute or dilute suitable injectable products such as certain compounded medicines or peptides, under professional guidance.
The bacteriostatic preservative allows the vial to be used for multiple withdrawals when handled correctly, reducing wastage and supporting precise dosing. Always follow the instructions on your pharmacy label and the directions of your prescriber when using preserved water as a diluent.
FAQ
What is Preserved Water (Sterile) (Bacteriostatic)?
It is sterile water for injection that contains a small amount of antimicrobial preservative. It is designed to be used as a diluent for compatible injectable medicines, allowing them to be reconstituted or diluted to the correct volume for administration.
Why does it contain a preservative?
The preservative provides a bacteriostatic effect, meaning it helps slow the growth of bacteria if the vial is accessed multiple times under appropriate aseptic technique. This can reduce wastage and allow a single vial to be used for several doses, as directed by your healthcare professional.
Can I inject preserved water on its own?
No. Preserved sterile water is intended to be used as a diluent for specific medicines, under prescription and professional guidance. It should not be injected on its own unless you have been explicitly instructed to do so by your prescriber.
How long can I use the vial after first opening it?
Your pharmacy label or written instructions will specify how long the vial may be used after first puncture. This time frame depends on the product, the preservative and your individual treatment plan. Do not continue using the vial beyond the stated period and discard any remaining solution as directed by your pharmacist.
Is preserved bacteriostatic water safe for children or during pregnancy?
Products containing benzyl alcohol, including preserved waters, must not be used in premature infants and may not be suitable for newborns or very young children unless specifically prescribed.
If you are pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, or considering use in a child, always seek advice from your doctor or pharmacist before use.
