Commonly Compounded Products

Personalised medicines, prepared for you.

While traditional pharmacies supply a wide range of standard medicines, they can’t always cover every strength, combination or dosage form a person might need. Some products may also contain excipients such as certain dyes, gluten, lactose or preservatives that aren’t suitable for everyone.

NCC Health uses high-quality raw ingredients to prepare customised medicines in the strength and dosage form requested by the prescriber — for example, liquids, capsules, tablets or creams. Many items can be made ready for pick-up or delivery within approximately 24 hours of receiving a valid prescription.

Below are examples of commonly compounded products and categories that health professionals may consider when individualised treatment is required. Always speak with your doctor, specialist or pharmacist to see what’s appropriate for your situation.

PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) Supplements

N-palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) is a naturally occurring fatty compound that has been studied for its potential role in helping to manage certain types of pain and inflammation. Some practitioners use PEA supplements as part of a broader pain management plan, alongside other prescribed therapies and lifestyle measures.

Compounding allows your prescriber to request specific strengths or combinations if appropriate for your needs.

Vet & Animal Compounding

Giving medicines to animals can be challenging. Many pets are quick to detect tablets hidden in food, or may only eat part of a medicated meal, making dosing uncertain.

Working with veterinarians, NCC Health can prepare animal medicines in forms and flavours that may be easier to give — for example, liquids, pastes or capsules, using flavours such as chicken, beef or apple (for suitable species), as requested by your vet.

Hair Loss

Changes in hair thickness, coverage or hairline can be distressing and may affect confidence and wellbeing. Hair loss can have many possible causes, including genetics, hormones and certain medical conditions, so assessment by a health professional is important.

In some situations, prescribers may use compounded topical or oral medicines as part of a management plan for hair loss and scalp health, where standard products or strengths are not suitable.

Weight Management

Weight management is influenced by many factors — including medical conditions, medicines, lifestyle and genetics. For some people, their doctor or specialist may consider medicines or supplements as part of a structured weight management program that also includes nutrition, physical activity and behavioural support.

Compounding can be helpful when a prescriber needs a specific strength, combination or dosage form (such as capsules, liquids, nasal sprays or troches) that isn’t readily available as a standard product.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a complex neurological condition that requires specialist care. Most treatment is based on standard, commercially available medicines prescribed by neurologists and other specialists.

In some cases, a prescriber may request compounded medicines — for example, particular strengths, combinations or dosage forms that support individual treatment goals and tolerability. These compounded items are designed to complement, not replace, your specialist’s core treatment plan.

Pediatrics

Children often need medicines in different strengths or forms to adults, and many have difficulty swallowing tablets or tolerating certain tastes.

Paediatric compounding can provide:

  • pleasant-tasting liquids instead of tablets

  • carefully measured powders

  • age-appropriate strengths

  • formulations that aim to avoid certain excipients where possible, as requested by the prescriber

All paediatric medicines are prepared on a doctor’s prescription with careful attention to dose and safety.

Sports Injuries

Muscle strains, joint injuries and overuse conditions are common in sport and physical activity. Management often includes rest, rehabilitation and, where appropriate, medicines to help manage pain or inflammation as directed by a health professional.

Compounded medicines can provide tailored options — for example, topical creams or gels, or specific strengths of oral medicines prescribed by your doctor or sports physician.

Sleep & Mood Disorders

Difficulty sleeping, low mood, changes in energy and “brain fog” can significantly impact daily life. These symptoms can have many different causes, so professional assessment is essential.

In certain cases, prescribers may consider compounded medicines or supplements to support sleep quality or mild mood symptoms, alongside lifestyle changes and other therapies. These products are not suitable for everyone and must always be used under medical supervision.

Pain Management

Ongoing pain can limit activity, reduce enjoyment of daily life and affect emotional wellbeing. Effective pain management usually combines medical treatment, physical strategies and lifestyle support.

Compounded pain medicines can provide prescribers with flexibility to:

  • adjust strengths

  • combine certain prescribed ingredients where appropriate

  • choose dosage forms such as creams, gels, suppositories, troches or capsules

so that treatment can be better matched to individual needs.

Skincare & Cosmetics

Skin types and conditions vary widely, and some people do not respond well to off-the-shelf products. Others may need to avoid particular ingredients, or require combinations not readily available commercially.

Compounded skincare and dermatological preparations can be tailored to your prescriber’s directions, including specific strengths and bases (creams, lotions, gels, solutions or peels). These preparations may be used in the management of a range of skin concerns, under medical guidance.

Vitamins & Nutrition

Nutritional needs can differ between individuals depending on age, health status, diet and lifestyle. In some cases, health professionals may recommend specific vitamins, minerals or nutritional supplements at particular doses or in certain combinations.

Compounding allows these to be prepared in personalised strengths and formats — for example, capsules or powders — and, where appropriate, to combine compatible ingredients into a single product as directed by your prescriber.

Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone therapy may be prescribed to help manage symptoms associated with menopause and other hormone-related conditions. Treatment decisions must always be made between patient and doctor, weighing potential benefits and risks.

Compounded hormone preparations can provide prescribers with flexibility around:

  • specific hormone combinations and strengths

  • dosage forms such as creams, capsules or troches

  • excipients and bases, where individual tolerability needs to be considered

These products are prescription-only and are not suitable for everyone. Ongoing medical supervision is essential.
