INGREDIENTS
Hypertonic Saline (Sodium Chloride) 5% Eye Drops are sterile eye drops containing a higher-than-normal concentration of salt.

How Hypertonic Saline 5% Works in the Eye
Hypertonic saline eye drops create an osmotic gradient at the surface of the eye. The higher salt concentration helps pull excess fluid out of the cornea, which can assist in reducing corneal swelling and improving clarity and comfort when used as prescribed. Because this is a specialised treatment, it should only be used under the guidance of an eye specialist or healthcare professional, and as part of your overall eye care plan.
FAQ
What are Hypertonic Saline 5% eye drops used for?
Hypertonic Saline (Sodium Chloride) 5% eye drops are generally used under specialist guidance to help manage corneal swelling (oedema). By drawing excess fluid away from the cornea, they can support improved comfort and clarity in certain eye conditions as part of a broader treatment plan.
Will these drops sting when I put them in?
It is common to experience mild, short-lived stinging or burning when using hypertonic saline eye drops, especially if the eye is already irritated. This usually settles within a few moments. If the stinging is severe, persists, or your eye becomes more red or painful, stop using the drops and contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Can I use these drops with my contact lenses?
In most cases, contact lenses should be removed before using hypertonic saline drops and not reinserted until your eye specialist advises it is safe. Always follow the instructions from your prescriber or pharmacist regarding contact lens use during treatment.
How long should I keep using Hypertonic Saline 5% eye drops?
The duration of use depends on the condition of your eye and your specialist’s treatment plan. Some people use the drops for a short period, while others may require longer-term or intermittent use. Follow your prescriber’s directions and attend any scheduled reviews to check your progress.
What should I do if I miss a dose?
If you miss a dose, apply it as soon as you remember unless it is almost time for your next dose. If it is nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal schedule. Do not apply extra drops to “catch up” without checking with your doctor or pharmacist.
